Five Things

So I was tagged by Jeff earlier this year. I finally got around to posting my "Five Things":

  1. An internal Atari e-mail by my Dad is available online

My Dad worked in the Coin-Op division of Atari for a few years. He is listed in the credits for the game Firefox. Unfortunately for me, Firefox is a laserdisk game and one of the very few Atari games that can not be played via emulation.

By 1983, things were going pretty bad at Atari, my Dad posted an internal e-mail talking about how things were bad and suggested that people think of quitting. (His message is dated "23-MAR-1984 15:02" if you want to read it)

Apparently my Dad's message struck some raw nerves. One of my favorite replies to my Dad's post is: "Pete's attitude is like pollution: it stinks and it can spread." There is more to this story, but I'm not clear enough on the details to say more than I have.

Anyway, there has been a lot of talk recently about being careful what post online.

    No kidding.

Every time I think of posting something stupid online, I think of my Dad's e-mail: a private internal e-mail, available to the world 24 years later.

  2. I used a knife in self defense

I posted the whole story about two years ago. I just guessed at my age at the time, as I remember I was between 6 and 8 years old.

  3. My family lived in hotels for a couple of months.

We moved to the Bay Area at the height of the "dot com" boom. The rental market was insane, people were renting houses without even seeing what they looked like. Since housing was so hard to find, my family had to live in a hotel for a couple of months. I was embarrassed about this until I worked at a hotel myself. Living in a hotel is really expensive. Even with weekly rates at a budget hotel.

  4. One of my feet is larger than the other

My left foot is a full size larger than my right. This took me a while to find this out because I wore sandals almost exclusively until I was about 16.

I just buy shoes for the larger size and use an insole in the right shoe if I need to.

  5. I was home-schooled my whole life

And I loved it. I could spend as much time on the computer as I wanted to, as long as I got my school work done before the end of the day.

I have a lot to say about education in general and my experiences with homeschooling in specific, but those are topics for another day.

So those are my "five". I'm tagging Adrian, Andrew, and Nick.
